    Q&A

    1. How to remove the splint if it is adhered tightly to the skin?
Wash the face in warm water for 2- 3 min. The splint will come off easily.
    2. How long should the splint be left in place?
It’s can be left in place as long as it is needed.
    3. Can a patient shower with it on, or if not is it OK to remove it and replace it?
Since it is waterproof, patients can shower with it on, it is also OK to remove and reapply it.
    4. What can be done if it is interfering with the patients breathing?
The splint can be forced open a few times to reduce the compression force. This will help to improve breathing. Move the splint upward to release nostril compression also help. Or simply choose one size larger e.g. from Small to Medium will open up the nasal airway a lot more.
    5. Should we adjust the wings?
Yes, you can adjust the wings for a perfect fit according to the shape of the orbit. The wing cans be adjusted by bending it up or down at the groove.
    6. Can it correct a broken nose?
Yes, the splint will help the broken nasal bone to heal in an ideal alignment and optimal aesthetic result.
    7. Can it reshape normal noses?
Yes, wearing it long enough it can help to mould the nose in a more desired shape due to its unique compression and traction force. In a way it is not much different form wearing braces to straighten your teeth.
    8. Can it be used with filler?
Yes, it can be used with nasal filler to enhance the result. It also helps to prevent and correct filler malposition and/or displacement

    9. Can it be moulded?

Yes, but you don’t have to mould it yourself. The compression force will mould it gently and constantly for you.
    10. Can it reduce swelling and bleeding?
Due to its compression force, the swelling and bleeding will be a lot less or doesn’t happen at all. It also reduces post-op pain for this reason.
    11. Will it need to be replaced when the swelling subsides?
In contrary to the convention splints which will become loose when the swelling disappears, Le Med Nasal Splint will continue to have a steady grip on the nose. There is no need to replace it.
    12. How to prolong the life of the splint?
Remove make-up, cleanse the skin with alcohol before applying. Avoid frequent removal and re-applying. The splint can maintain a good grip up to a dozen times of removal and re- applying. Wash the splint in warm soapy water; rinse thoroughly then air-dry (can use a hair dryer) will make the adhesive working again.

    13. What is the use of dorsal pads?
The splint comes with a dorsal pad. It can be used to reduce post-operative swelling and bruising – especially with nasal hump reduction. It can also be used to fill up the dead space between the skin and the splint along the nasal dorsum. There are two types of dorsal pads.
The foam version which has grey colour and the silicone version which is transparent.

    14. Should there be a gap between the nasal dorsum and the splint?
For injectable rhinoplasty, it is advisable to have a small gap between the skin and the splint to allow room for the filler to gather at the midline to maximise augmentation. A gap is also useful for excessive bleeding and swelling to escape in unexpected haemorrhage, thus
minimise the risk of skin necrosis.

    15. Why the splint is in V shape rather than U shape?

The V shape allow the two side-panels exert even pressure on the nasal walls. It also minimises open roof deformity in hump reduction and infrafracture in surgical rhinoplasty; at the same time maximises augmentation in injectable rhinoplasty.

    16. I feel “nothing” when I wear the splint, does it mean there is no compression?
The splint is designed to provide maximum comfort for the user. Even though you feel nothing, the splint is still working fine. Similar to wearing braces to straighten the teeth. You are not supposed to feel the pressure! However, there are many ways to increase the
compression if you desire: push the splint all the way down to the cheeks with your finger, wear the splint lower toward the nostrils or simply change to one size smaller.
